Iowa Wesleyan University has announced the postponement of all 2020 Homecoming activities and the commencement ceremony for the class of 2020, originally rescheduled from last spring to this fall due to the coronavirus pandemic. This difficult decision was finalized after the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference made the announcement last week to postpone all athletic events, except for golf and cross country, to the spring 2021 season.
The grand opening for the Willis Wrestling Facility, which was planned to take place during this year’s Homecoming festivities, will be rescheduled for a later date.
The Class of 1970 and the Class of 1971 will both be celebrated at Homecoming 2021, which is currently scheduled for October 8-9, 2021. The Hall of Fame and Alumni award recipients for 2020 will also be announced and recognized at Homecoming 2021.
“We remain committed to celebrating our recent graduates’ accomplishments, who will be provided with a couple of options for personal recognition,” said President Chris Plunkett. “We are all disappointed that the ongoing pandemic is impacting so many of our longstanding and meaningful traditions. However, our top priority is the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff as we make every effort to complete the fall semester face-to-face here on campus.”
